How to find the dimensions of the perfect pouch

Thanks to Sonia, I realised my tutorial was missing the scale. So, if you want to make your box pouch, here are some thoughts about the dimensions.

[click the pic to see it larger]

If you know what size you want your box to be, L[length], W[width], H[heigth], use the formulas below to find the size of your pieces and corners.

If you're making a small box, or you're a quilter, you can use 1/4" sewing allowance. If you're using a fabric that frays a lot or you want a bigger or stronger box, you might want a 1/2" sewing allowance. I am used to work with cm and only use 1/4" when quilting, so I usually have 1 cm sewing allawance :) It's not that important, as long as you keep it constant. For garments, however, 1/4" is usually a little to little :)

If  you have 1/4" sewing allowance and 1/2" where you attach the zipper.
a = L + H +1/2"
b = H + W + 3/4"
c = H * 0.7 [I have no ideea how one can choose to work in base 8 :) and I barely remember how to multiply in base 8, if so ]

If you're using 1/2" allowance and 1" for the zipper, you'll have:

a = L + H +1"
b = H + W + 1 1/2"
c = H * 0.7

And, of course, if you're lucky like me and live life in metric ...

a = L + H + 2 cm
b = H + W + 3cm
c = H * 0.7

Please let me know if you have any questions. And enjoy your pretty pouches :) Oh, and if you have no ideea what I'm talking about, you might want to have a look at the tutorial here.

Cute useless stuff

That's all I was able to make last weeks.

The first useless thing was supposed to be for a contest. The only problem with it was that I made it the last minute. Literally. I knew about the contest for more than a month and, of course, I waited until late evening last day. And the same moment I started it, some guys came to measure our windows and .. well... let's just say I don't even like it. Pus the binding is awfull (it was supposed to be solid in strong colour but who could find it with those guys around? )Plus I never use mug rugs, so it is and will be completly useless.

The second useless thing was actually usefull after all , it now keeps all my make-up stuff. It's quite easy to tell I don't use make up too often :D.

cute little useless thing

I made the third one just because I really felt I wanted to do something and I had some Echino leftovers after framing. And although this one I love, I have a very strong feeling I won't be albe to use it, it's such a strange dimension.
cute longer useless thing

[Duh, I must get rid of that red working area]

Now I'm going to try to finish two very simple todler quilts in 2 days. And pack. And hopefully make pics before leaving.

Kind of... sort of.. not really

I miss sewing. Very very much. A lot of things happened here lately and the only time I had left was after 1 a.m. Usually this is not a problem, but when it comes to thinking about something... whell... it's really not the best moment.

But I missed it too much and decided to do something. Something small... a lot of improvisional piecing... scraps only (so I don't kill my self if something very ugly happens). Camera bag! This sounded so easy, considering that I made about 3 dozens bags until now.

Well..one thing let to another... and that's pretty much it. It was not ok. That's the most flattering picture and, belive me, it is flattering.

But no, I couldn't stop... I saw these gorgeous kimono shoes at IThinkSew and for the first time I bought an online pattern. Not that good either.

I missed my size (as in two europeean numbers).

The good part is I only made one shoe and I also made quite a few adjustments and already cut shoe no.2 and 3 (the first one was test only) and now I'm ready to make my self something nice. Something that I was actually going to do this morning but somehow ended up writing a pattern. Don't ask how I got there, way too long story.

Ok, so the real reason for this post:
would any of you, ladies, would like to take a look and tell me if you can understand something from my pattern? :D Pretty please? [eyelash batting here]

How to spend more time and money and think you got a bargain

h, yes, I am really good at this!

So we've gone to a really expensive store in the mall today, and while the kid was playing I spotted some nice notebooks. It might have been the price but I really didn't like any enough to buy. Ok, I kind of liked some, but they all had some playboy bunny, emo chick ot tanga (oh, yeah) on the cover. Or But I really needed one. So, well, I did it.

Bought the cheapest notebook, about 2$, horrible cover

spent 1/2 hour planning, cutting, sewing

some Ikea and some gorgeous Alexander Henry fabric

and now it's just waiting some inspiration for another quilt.

Hmm... now it looks like a bargain again :))))

Ah, don't be very impressed by my calculations, they were, well... wrong :D. Of course, one (bad) thing led to another (good thing), and my notebook has 2 different sides, so that I can easyly find the begining and end.

The front has more bubbles

The back has more sticks.
